Reading the Concept of Awakening

An Article by: Adel AL-Omary
Translated by: Nahid Khalifa
Social Media has a lot of confusion about the concept of awakening, for many reasons, Not many knew how to use this term at the time of its appearance, which got it to be confused with Islam.
Because of the aesthetics of the word “Islamic Awakening”, people accepted this term and used it in their public discourse, but it became a new and promising call. This name even circulated and spread among some well-known scientists.
With this initial consensus, some sheikhs questioned the term “Awakening” through fatwas and booklets. A question was addressed to Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan, and the answer was: this is a new word, I mean now Muslims woke up and before they were asleep? Of course not, it is a meaningless word, this is a new term that we do not recognize.
What actually helped this concept to prevail was the state of media reconciliation with the Awakening phenomenon in many Arab countries, but this description differed with the start of the clash of countries with Islamic movements, and was replaced by other words such as extremism and political Islam.
In Saudi society, the term awakening was not common in comparison to other Arab societies. Saudi society had its own accent in describing the state of religious transformation such as “Mutawa”, “Volunteer” and others, words that have a depth in popular culture to describe a person. The most prominent of those who referred to the local Saudi Awakening «Mohammed Qutb» in his book “our contemporary reality”.
We can conclude that «Awakening» is a revolutionary political and brotherhood movement that chose the term «Islamic awakening» to be dressed in the clothing of the return of true religion, to deceive many peoples and governments, and their supporters were kidnapped, educational and religious institutions, not to mention the disbelief of states and societies. It has created terrorist movements such as Al-Qaeda, ISIS and their alikes.
